Drop PNG files here

Convert up to 50 PNG files at once to JPG, up to 50 MB each. You can also choose files or paste a copied image with Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac). Files never leave your browser.

Conversion settings

Transparent parts of a logo or screenshot are filled with the background color below. For captures with lots of text, a higher quality keeps edges sharper.

Higher is sharper and larger. At 90 the difference is usually hard to see.

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with this color. White by default.

Image size

EXIF data (camera, time, GPS location) is not carried over to the converted file. The photo orientation is applied.

When to turn a PNG into a JPG

Screen captures and graphics saved as PNG are often surprisingly large and run into the size limit of an email attachment or a forum upload. Captures that include photos can be several times bigger than the same picture as JPG. Switching to JPG usually cuts the size a lot without an obvious difference. Conversion runs in your browser, so anything personal in a capture stays on your device, and you can convert up to 50 files and download a ZIP.

How to use

  1. Drop PNG files on the dashed area or press Choose PNG files. You can also paste a copied capture with Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac).
  2. If the image has transparent regions, pick the Background for transparent areas. White suits a white document.
  3. Set the quality. 85 to 90 is fine for general images, and about 95 keeps text-heavy captures crisp.
  4. Optionally use Limit long edge to lower the resolution and get an even smaller file.
  5. Download with the card button or Download all (ZIP). Example: screenshot.png becomes screenshot.jpg.

What changes in the conversion

  • Transparency becomes a color: the alpha channel is flattened onto the chosen background.
  • Lossy compression: JPG discards detail the eye barely notices, so pixels are no longer identical to the PNG.
  • Text and lines: faint ringing can appear along edges. A higher quality reduces it.
  • Color profile and metadata: not embedded.
  • Pixel size: unchanged by default.

Rules of thumb

Image type Suggestion
Captures with photos, illustrations Quality 85 to 90
Text-focused captures Quality 95, or keep the PNG
Transparent logo used on a colored page Set the background to that color

To go the other way use the JPG to PNG converter, and for a smaller web file try PNG to WebP.

FAQ

How much smaller does a PNG get as JPG?

Photos and image-heavy pictures often shrink a lot. Flat logos and tables are already small as PNG, so a JPG can come out similar or even larger. Each card shows the before and after size and the change, so you can see for yourself.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a background color. It is white by default and you can pick any color. Semi-transparent shadows are blended with that color before saving.

The text in my screenshot looks fuzzy.

JPG tends to leave faint halos around sharp edges such as text. Raise the quality to 95 or more, and for captures where text is the point, keeping the PNG may be better.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 50, each up to 50 MB. Download them one by one or all together as a ZIP. Only the extension of each name changes.

What if a file is named .png but is really something else?

The check reads the file contents, not the extension. A JPG that only has a .png name, or a WebP mixed into the batch, is still converted to JPG, and its card says what it really was. Only HEIC photos are pointed to the HEIC converters, since they need a separate decoder.
