Meme Generator — Top & Bottom Text on Your Photo
Browser tool that adds classic top and bottom captions to a picture to make a meme
Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
Drop the picture for your meme here
One JPG, PNG or WebP file up to 50 MB. You can also paste a copied image with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). Nothing leaves your browser.
No sample meme pictures are bundled. Upload your own photo or an image you have the right to use.
Press Enter for a new line; long captions wrap to the picture width on their own.
Fonts are served from this site (SIL Open Font License). Characters a font lacks are drawn with your device font.
A share of the picture width.
Saved at the original resolution. JPG uses quality 92, and the file is named after the first words of the captions.
The picture is redrawn, so the original EXIF data (camera, time, GPS location) is not carried over; the photo's rotation is applied. Nothing is uploaded.
What it is
A meme maker for the classic format: bold white text with a black outline at the top and bottom of a picture. Put a one-liner on your pet, a holiday snap or your own drawing and share it in a group chat or on a forum. No sample meme pictures are bundled, so you start with a picture of your own.
How to use
- Drop a picture on the dashed area or press Choose a picture. A copied image can be pasted with Ctrl+V.
- Type the Top text and the Bottom text (one of them is enough).
- Set the Font, Text size, Text colour and Outline colour and width, and switch ALL CAPS on or off.
- Check the preview, choose JPG or PNG and press Save meme.
How it works
- Placement: the top caption is centred at the top and the bottom caption at the bottom, 3% of the shorter edge away from the edge.
- Size: text is 3-20% of the picture width (default 9%) and the outline 0-25% of the text size (default 14%). Because both are relative, the file looks exactly like the preview.
- Wrapping: captions break at spaces once they reach 94% of the width; Chinese and Japanese without spaces break between characters.
- All caps changes only letters that have a case (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic); Hangul, Han characters and emoji stay as typed.
- File name: built from the first words of the captions in lower case; a top caption of “When the alarm rings” gives
meme-when-the-alarm-rings.jpg.
Examples
| Picture | Top text | Bottom text |
|---|---|---|
| Sleepy cat | When the alarm rings | Five more minutes |
| Messy desk | The night before the exam | Time to start |
| Dog in the park | When you hear “walk” | Zoomies |
Want only part of the picture? Crop it first with the image cropper. For text anywhere on the picture, the add text to image tool fits better.
FAQ
Why are there no famous meme templates?
On purpose. Most well-known meme pictures are film or TV stills or other people's photos, which can raise copyright and portrait-right issues. Use a photo you took, art you made or an image you have permission to use.
Can I get the classic Impact look?
The default heavy display font draws Latin and Korean letters thick and bold, close to the Impact style. With ALL CAPS on, English captions turn upper case like the classic memes; Korean and other scripts are not affected.
What happens with long captions?
They wrap at spaces to stay within 94% of the picture width. If a caption is still too long, lower the text size or split it with Enter.
What quality is the saved meme?
It keeps the resolution of your picture. JPG at quality 92 is smaller and handy for chats and forums; pick PNG to keep full quality.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The captions are drawn and the file is saved in your browser.
