Image Converter — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO

Browser converter between seven image formats with batch ZIP download

Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

Drop image files here

Add up to 50 JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO or AVIF files at once, up to 50 MB each. You can also paste a copied image with Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac). Files never leave your browser.

Conversion settings

Mixed formats are fine. Everything is converted to the format chosen below, and with two or more files you can download them all as a ZIP.

Convert to

Higher is sharper and larger.

Transparent areas are filled with this color. JPG and BMP cannot store transparency, so they are always filled.

Image size

EXIF data (camera, time, GPS location) is not carried over; the photo orientation is applied. Files never leave your browser.

What it is

A converter that changes an image’s file format and nothing else. Turn a WebP saved from the web into a JPG, a transparent PNG into WebP, an old BMP into PNG, or a logo into an ICO icon, all on one page. It reads and writes seven formats: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO and AVIF, in any direction. Everything runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded.

How to use

  1. Drop image files on the dashed area or click Choose images. Up to 50 files at once, 50 MB each.
  2. Under Convert to, pick JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO or AVIF.
  3. Adjust quality, transparency, background color or a long-edge limit if needed. Files already added are converted again when a setting changes.
  4. Download each file, or with two or more use Download all (ZIP).

How it works

  • Detection: the real format comes from the file signature (magic bytes), not the extension.
  • JPG, WebP, AVIF: lossy formats with a quality setting, 90 by default for JPG and WebP and 50 for AVIF. AVIF is written by the libavif encoder compiled to WebAssembly, downloaded once the first time you pick AVIF.
  • PNG: lossless. A photo saved as PNG getting larger is normal.
  • GIF: reduced to a 256-color palette; transparency is on or off per pixel.
  • BMP: uncompressed 24-bit, with transparent areas filled with the background color.
  • ICO: one square PNG of the chosen size inside an ICO container, the variant supported since Windows Vista and by all browsers.
  • Metadata: the picture is redrawn, so EXIF data (camera, time, GPS) is not carried over; the photo orientation is applied.

Examples

Original Convert to Result
logo.png (transparent) JPG logo.jpg, transparent areas white
banner.webp PNG banner.png, lossless and larger
scan.bmp (6 MB) WebP at 90 scan.webp, usually a few hundred KB
icon.png 512×512 ICO 256 icon.ico with one 256×256 image
photo.jpg AVIF at 50 photo.avif, smaller than the JPG at similar quality

If you always convert the same pair, the dedicated pages such as PNG to JPG or AVIF to JPG are quicker. To hit a target file size, use the image compressor.

FAQ

Can I mix file types in one batch?

Yes. Each file's real format is read from its contents, and everything is converted to the one format you pick. Files with a wrong extension are still read correctly.

What happens to transparency when I convert a PNG to JPG?

JPG and BMP cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color, white by default. When converting to PNG, WebP, AVIF, ICO or GIF you can keep transparency or fill it with a color.

Are animated GIFs converted?

Only the first frame is converted to a still image, and the result card says so. Animated WebP, APNG and AVIF sequences work the same way. Keeping the animation is not supported.

What size is the ICO file?

You choose one square size, 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 or 256 pixels, and the ICO holds that single image. A picture that is not square is fitted and centered, never cropped. For a full set of website icons, use the favicon generator.

Can I add iPhone HEIC or SVG files?

Those have their own converters, because SVG needs a scale to be chosen and HEIC needs a separate decoder. Use HEIC to JPG or SVG to PNG. An SVG added here gets a link to the SVG converter; a .heic file is not offered in the file picker (an iPhone hands over a JPG copy instead), and a HEIC photo saved under another extension gets a link to the HEIC converter.
