Split PDF — Extract Pages by Range Online

Split a PDF by page ranges, every N pages or per page, with ZIP download, in the browser

Runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

Add one PDF (up to 100 MB). Adding another file replaces the current one. Files never leave your browser.

What it is

A PDF splitter takes pages out of one PDF or cuts a long document into several files. Use it when only certain pages of a scan have to be submitted, when a manual should be divided by chapter, or when a file is too large for an email and needs to be halved. After you add the file you see a preview of the first page and the page count, pick how to split, and create all outputs in one step. When several files result you can download them one by one or as a single ZIP. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use

  1. Drop one PDF on the dashed area or press Choose PDF.
  2. Choose how to split.
    • Page ranges: type something like 1-3, 5, 8-. Decide whether each range becomes its own file or all selected pages go into one file.
    • Every N pages: with 5 you get pages 1-5, 6-10 and so on. The last group holds whatever is left.
    • Every page: one file per page.
  3. The tool tells you how many files will be created. Press Split PDF.
  4. Download files individually or press Download all (ZIP).

Rules and limits

  • File names: the original name plus the pages. A range is name-p1-3.pdf, a single page name-p5.pdf, a combined selection name-p1-3_5.pdf, and a per-page split is zero-padded like name-p01.pdf. Korean and emoji names are kept inside the ZIP.
  • Range rules: page numbers start at 1 and are separated by commas, semicolons or spaces. Typing the same page twice includes it twice in a combined selection.
  • What is copied: page content, size and rotation. Bookmarks, document info and the tag structure are not written, and annotations such as form fields and links may not be fully preserved.
  • Limits: 100 MB per file and 300 output files at once. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
  • Libraries: pdf-lib (MIT) writes the files and PDF.js (Apache-2.0) draws the preview.

Examples

Goal Setting
Save only pages 2 to 4 Page ranges 2-4, one PDF per range
Keep the cover and the last page in one file Page ranges 1, 10 (if page 10 is the last), one PDF with the selected pages
Cut a 20-page document into groups of 5 Every N pages with 5, giving 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20
Turn a scan into single sheets Every page, then the ZIP

To glue pieces back together use Merge PDF, to reorder or delete pages use Organize PDF, and to save pages as pictures use PDF to JPG.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Splitting happens entirely inside your browser and the file never leaves your device. That is useful for contracts, payslips and other sensitive documents. Nothing is stored anywhere before you download the result.

How do I write page ranges?

Separate them with commas, for example 1-3, 5, 8-. A single number is that page only, 1-3 is page 1 to 3, 8- is page 8 to the end and -3 is the start up to page 3. Full-width digits and commas and the ~ sign are understood too. A range outside the document or one that starts after it ends is reported with the exact part that is wrong.

What is the difference between one PDF per range and one combined PDF?

The option One PDF per range creates a file for each range and puts the range in the file name, such as report-p1-3.pdf. The option One PDF with the selected pages collects only the selected pages, in the order you typed them, into a single new file. Use the second option to pick out the pages you need.

Do bookmarks and form fields survive?

The content of each page (text, images, shapes) is copied as it is, but bookmarks (the outline) and document info are not carried into the new files. Annotations such as form fields and links may not be fully preserved, and links that point to other pages can break.

Can I split encrypted or very large PDFs?

PDFs that ask for a password to open are not supported yet; remove the password first. A PDF that opens without a password but has editing restrictions (security settings) cannot be used either; it gets its own message. Saving it again with Print → Save as PDF in a PDF viewer often works. The limit is 100 MB per file and up to 300 output files at once. For a document of more than 300 pages that you want page by page, run it in two parts.
