Rotate and flip
Current setting: No turn (only fix the photo-info rotation)The same setting applies to every image, and the results update on their own. Mirror and flip follow the picture as you see it.
Files keep their format (JPG and WebP at quality 92). Names get the change added, such as -rot90 or -flipH.
The picture is redrawn, so the original EXIF data (camera, time, GPS location) is not carried over; the photo's rotation is applied. Nothing is uploaded.
What it is
A batch tool that turns photos left or right by 90°, by 180°, or mirrors and flips them. It also cures the classic problem of phone pictures that appear sideways once they are uploaded to a website, a shop back office or an old photo viewer. Add many files at once, apply one setting to all of them and download a single ZIP.
How to use
- Drop photos on the dashed area or press Choose images (up to 50 at a time).
- Press Left 90°, Right 90°, 180°, Mirror (left-right) or Flip upside down as often as you like. The current setting and a preview of the first photo update straight away.
- The results are rebuilt automatically. Each card shows the new size and whether a phone rotation tag was applied.
- Download files one by one or press Download all (ZIP). Start over returns to no turn.
How it works
- EXIF Orientation first: value 6 means turn right 90°, 8 turn left 90°, 3 a half turn, 2 and 4 mirror images, and 5 and 7 a mirror combined with a quarter turn. The tag is applied when the photo is read, and your own turn and flips are added on top.
- Mirror and flip follow what you see on screen. Mirroring and flipping together equals a 180° turn, so the setting is shown that way.
- Format: JPEG stays JPEG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP (JPEG and WebP at quality 92). The file name gets the change, such as
-rot90or-flipH; a file whose only change was the phone tag gets-upright. - Metadata: the new file carries no EXIF data, location or rotation tag.
Examples
| Original | Setting | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1600 × 1200 | Right 90° | 1200 × 1600, photo-rot90.jpg |
| Phone photo with tag 6 (stored as 4032 × 3024) | none | upright 3024 × 4032, photo-upright.jpg |
| Mirrored selfie | Mirror | text reads normally, selfie-flipH.jpg |
To change the shape afterwards use the image cropper, and to make the files smaller the image compressor.
FAQ
My photo looks fine on my phone but sideways elsewhere.
Phones often save the picture as shot and add a tag (EXIF Orientation) that says how to turn it for display. Software that ignores the tag shows it sideways. This tool applies the tag first, turns the actual pixels upright and saves without the tag, so the file looks the same everywhere. Just adding the photo without pressing anything fixes it.
When do I need to mirror a photo?
When a selfie came out mirrored and text reads backwards, or when a scan or a transparency needs to be reversed. Mirror and flip act on the picture as you see it, so mirroring after a quarter turn still swaps what is on the left and right of the screen.
Does rotating reduce quality?
A quarter turn only moves pixels, but the new file is written again, and JPEG and WebP are compressed at quality 92. The difference is hard to see; PNG is saved without loss.
Can different photos get different rotations?
One setting applies to every photo in the list. Process photos that need another direction in a separate round, or add just those again after downloading the rest.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser and only the finished files are downloaded to your device.
