What it is
A free LED scrolling text sign that runs in your browser. Type a message, press Full screen, and your phone or tablet becomes a bright marquee. Hold it up at a concert or fan meeting, greet someone at the airport arrivals gate, cheer from the stands, wave down a friend in a crowd, or surprise someone at a birthday party. Choose between scrolling text, a fixed message sized to fill the screen, or a gentle once-a-second blink, and set the colors, speed, size, font and direction. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
How to use
- Type your message. “Happy Birthday!” is filled in so the preview starts moving right away.
- Pick a display mode: Scroll, Fixed or Blink.
- Set the speed (1 to 10) and text size (40 to 90 percent of the screen height), then choose the direction and font.
- Tap a color preset (red, yellow, green or white on black, or black on yellow) or pick your own text and background colors.
- Press Full screen and turn the phone sideways. Tap the screen to pause; tap again to resume.
- Close with the button in the top right corner or press Esc.
How it works
- Speed is tied to the screen height, so the same setting feels the same on a small phone and a large tablet. Speed 1 moves 0.2 screen heights per second, speed 5 one screen height, and speed 10 two screen heights.
- Scrolling wraps around: moving left, the text enters at the right edge and, once it has fully left on the left, starts again from the right. One loop is the screen width plus the text width. Changing the text, size, font, direction or mode restarts the loop.
- Text size in scroll mode is the chosen share of the screen height, 70 percent by default.
- Fixed measures each word and finds the largest size that fits within 90 percent of the width and height, never larger than the chosen size. If a single line would be too small, the text wraps at spaces to stay bigger.
- Blink uses the fixed layout and turns the text on for half a second and off for half a second. It never blinks faster than three times per second.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, the text stands still until you press “Animate anyway”.
- Full screen uses the browser’s Fullscreen API. Where that is unavailable, a cover window fills the page instead. Locking to landscape is attempted where the device allows it.
- Messages can be up to 300 characters.
Examples
On a phone held sideways with a screen 360 pixels tall, the default 70 percent size gives letters 252 pixels tall.
| Speed | Distance per second | On a 360 px tall screen |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.2 × screen height | 72 px |
| 5 (default) | 1 × screen height | 360 px |
| 10 | 2 × screen height | 720 px |
| Occasion | Message | Suggested setup |
|---|---|---|
| Concert | WE LOVE YOU ❤️ | Scroll, red on black, speed 5 |
| Airport pickup | WELCOME HOME SAM | Fixed, white on black |
| Meeting point | GATE 3 HERE | Fixed, black on yellow |
| Birthday | Happy Birthday! | Blink, yellow on black |
Tips
Short messages read best from a distance. Scrolling handles longer lines, but keep the speed around 3 to 5 so people can finish reading before the words slide away. In a dark venue you can lower the brightness and still be seen, and remember the people behind you when you hold the screen up.
FAQ
Do I need to install an app?
No. Open this page, type your message and press Full screen. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere, so reloading the page brings back the default message.
Why does full screen not work on my phone?
Some browsers, including some iPhone versions, do not let web pages use true full screen. In that case a cover window fills the page instead, with a Close button in the top right corner; Esc also closes it. Turning the phone sideways usually hides more of the browser bar.
Is the blink mode safe for people sensitive to flashing?
The blink rate is fixed at once per second and never goes above three flashes per second, the threshold photosensitivity guidelines warn about. If your device is set to reduce motion, scrolling and blinking do not start on their own.
Will it drain my battery?
A bright screen kept on for a long time uses a lot of power. In a dark venue, medium brightness is plenty, and a black background saves power on OLED screens. Bring a power bank if you will hold it up for hours.
Can I use emoji?
Yes, emoji scroll like any other character. They are drawn by your device's emoji font, so they keep their own colors instead of the text color.
The screen turns off while I hold the sign up.
In full screen the page asks the browser to keep the screen on (Screen Wake Lock). If your browser does not support it, a note says so under the controls; lengthen your device auto-lock time instead.
