Stacked discount result
Enter a list price and fill in at least one discount to see the final price and the effective discount.
Discounts are applied one after another to the current price. Percent discounts are rounded to the smallest currency unit and a fixed coupon never takes the price below zero. Real shops differ in minimum order amounts, maximum discount caps and how points or card discounts are applied, so the checkout page can show a different number.
What it is
When a shop gives a product discount, a cart coupon and a card discount at the same time, it is hard to tell how much cheaper the order really is. This stacked discount calculator takes a list price and lets you stack percent discounts and fixed coupons in any order. It shows the price after every step, the final price and the effective discount. It also compares the same discounts with percent first and fixed first, and splits the total between the seller and the platform. Everything is calculated in your browser.
How to use
- Enter the list price.
- Choose % off or a fixed coupon for each discount and type its value.
- Mark each discount as paid by the seller or the platform.
- Use the arrows to change the order, and the add button for up to 6 discounts.
- Read the final price, the effective discount, the price after each step and the result of the other order.
How it works
- Discounts are applied from the top to the bottom, each to the current price.
- A percent discount is the current price times the rate, rounded to the smallest currency unit. Stacked percents multiply instead of adding.
- A fixed coupon takes off its value but never takes the price below zero.
- Effective discount = (list price − final price) ÷ list price.
- Seller and platform totals add the amount actually taken off by each discount.
- Money is handled as whole minor units (2 decimals in English), so there are no floating point errors.
Example
A list price of 100,000 with 10% off (seller pays) and then a 5,000 coupon (platform pays).
| Step | Discount | Price after |
|---|---|---|
| 1. 10% off | 10,000 | 90,000 |
| 2. 5,000 coupon | 5,000 | 85,000 |
The final price is 85,000 and the effective discount is 15%. With the coupon first the final price would be 85,500.
Common mistakes
Adding percentages together makes the deal look bigger than it is: 10% and 10% is 19%, not 20%. Another is ignoring the minimum order amount or the maximum discount of a coupon. This tool does not apply those limits, so for a capped coupon enter the amount that is really taken off as a fixed discount.
FAQ
Do two 10% discounts add up to 20%?
No. The second discount applies to the price that is already reduced, so together they give 19%. Taking 10% off 100,000 leaves 90,000 and another 10% leaves 81,000.
Does the order of a fixed coupon and a percent discount matter?
Yes. On 100,000, 10% off and then a 5,000 coupon gives 85,000, while the coupon first and then 10% off gives 85,500. The tool lets you reorder the discounts with the arrows and compares both orders.
What is the effective discount?
It is the list price minus the final price, divided by the list price. It shows how much cheaper you really bought after all the discounts together.
How is the seller share calculated?
Mark each discount as paid by the seller or by the platform. The tool adds up the amount that was actually taken off for each payer. If a coupon is larger than the remaining price, only the part that was applied counts.
What if the checkout page shows another number?
Shops differ in minimum order amounts, maximum discount caps and the order in which points and card discounts apply. This tool simply applies each discount to the current price, one after another, in the order you set.
